In a commendable effort to raise awareness about the importance of eye donation, the Department of Optometry of Shri Rawatpura Sarkar University organised a special guest lecture as part of the Eye Donation Fortnight 2024 celebrations. The event took place on August 30 and saw the august presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. S.K. Singh and Registrar Dr. Saurabh Kumar Sharma, who, along with Professor Dr. Anubhuti Kosale, Dean, Faculty of Science, e

xtended their support to the noble cause.

The guest lecture delivered by renowned experts in the field of optometry and eye care, Dr. Amrita Verma (Retina Specialist) and Dr. Manish Srivastava (Senior Ophthalmologist), focused on the importance of eye donation, the process involved in it and how each donation can change lives. The speaker emphasized the critical need to increase participation in eye donation to combat corneal blindness, which affects millions of people worldwide.

Additional to the day’s activities, the department also organized a one-day free eye check-up camp. The initiative provided students, faculty and the local community with an opportunity to get their eyes checked by experienced optometrists. The aim of the camp was to promote eye health and early detection of potential vision problems. On the other hand, dental check-ups were conducted by Dr. Aatish Sahu and Dr. Rashmi Rathore under the leadership of Dr. Mohammad Shahryar Khan.

The Vice Chancellor in his address appreciated the Department of Optometry for their dedicated efforts in promoting eye health and raising awareness about eye donation. He encouraged everyone to donate their eyes and contribute to the betterment of society. The Registrar also highlighted the University’s commitment towards social responsibility and the importance of such initiatives in creating a healthier and more aware community.

The event was a significant step towards spreading awareness and motivating more and more people to come forward and donate their eyes, thereby ensuring the gift of vision to those in need. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Deepali Sahu, Assistant Professor and was coordinated by Ms. Akanksha Choudhary.
